Belize clothing and luggage suggestions

Bring comfortable, casual clothing for your trip to Belize. The lifestyle in Belize is casual and informal. If you want to bring a watch make sure it's an inexpensive one and leave your good jewelry at home.

Here's a list of what clothing you should bring:

  • Shorts
  • T-shirts
  • Loose fitting cotton shirts
  • Light colored cotton pants (such as khakis)
    Swimsuit(s)
  • Comfortable tennis shoes or sandals and hiking shoes
  • Hat with a wide brim
  • Sunglasses

Other items you'll want to pack include:

  • Passport
  • Snorkeling gear (or you can rent it there)
  • Camera, film, and batteries
  • Fishing tackle
  • Scuba diving gear with certification card
  • First Aid Kit (including any currently prescribed medications)
  • Sun screen (SPF 15 or higher)
  • Water purification tablets
  • Insect repellant (with 30% DEET)
  • Spare pair of eyeglasses or contact lenses
  • Travelers' checks and credit cards (Visa is best)


About Money

The currency in Belize is the Belize Dollar (BZ$). 1 U.S. Dollar = 2 Belize Dollars. It is easy to exchange U.S. dollars nearly anywhere in Belize and U.S. traveler's checks can be changed at any bank. The ATMs in Belize will not accept foreign bank cards but they will accept
major credit cards.
